11 WAYS I OVERCAME HEARTACHE & STRUGGLES IN 2019

I’ve had some really difficult times in 2019. It has been a year of struggles, pain, upheaval, yet also growth.  Today I’ve sat and reflected upon this past year.  Things haven’t quite turned out the way I had hoped they would.   It has not been all sunshine and rainbows.

So, the last 12 months have been really tough.  I’ve experienced fears, failures, disappointments and betrayal.  I’ve been hurt by those I thought loved me,  I was harassed online,  my dreams began to fade,  I felt the black dog creeping into my day to day life,  I felt lost,  alone,  weak,  I ate too much,  I PUT ON WEIGHT,  I lost my mojo,  I stopped training for the first time my entire life and some days I didn’t even want to drag my sorry ass out of bed to face the world.   But guess what… I did. 

Even though everything was so damn hard and I felt like my world was falling apart, I showed up, day after day, when I didn’t feel like it or when the rainbows appeared to have disappeared.

THIS IS HOW I OVERCAME THE DARK DAYS AND STRUGGLE

1. I STARTED TO BELIEVE IN WHO I WAS AGAIN.

You see this year I felt betrayed, I got hurt, confused, my heart was shattered and all of a sudden what I thought was true made no sence anymore.   It made me start to doubt myself and my self-worth.  But here’s the thing, it’s our belief in ourselves and our self-love that gives us strength.   Life is about love on so many levels and our beliefs determine our experiences.  I stopped listening to the naysayers, I began to love again and I surrounded myself with positive people.   I stopped worrying about fitting in or what other people think and instead looked inside to find out what made ME happy. 

2. TRUE HAPPINESS STARTS WITH ME. 

I started to feel joy again when I realised that true happiness can never come from another person, the stuff I own, how I look, or what my status is.   I have to create my own happiness and I have to be the person I want to be with. 

3. BEING MINDFUL AND PRESENT.  

I realised that much of my ‘misery’ was because I was trying to recreate the past or live in a fantasied future.  I am now learning the joys of mindfulness, of grasping every moment I’m alive, to feel the breath of life pumping through my veins, to be present wherever I am and whoever I’m with

4. GRATITUDE. 

I finally understand how important gratitude is to living a happy life.   I’m so grateful for my parents who love me unconditionally, my sister who never leaves my side, I’m grateful to live each day researching and learning about the stuff I love (Pro-Metabolic nutrition!), I’m grateful to those who trust me to serve them with what I know as my clients, I’m grateful to those who support my work and who want to live a better life with MORE energy, MORE joy, MORE balance and buy my meal plan programs or are mentored by me. 

I feel a deep connection with those I serve through my coaching, my meal plans, my blogging, and my programs.   I’m grateful that I’ve been able to make a career, a business from my research and I realise we do have the power to create the lives we love.

5. MY ENVIRONMENT and SELF CARE.   

I made sure that the space surrounding me was full of light, love and inspiration.  I read great books, I surrounded myself with the art I loved, I only read uplifting and motivating posts, I danced to music that made me feel alive whilst looking ridiculously silly.  I let myself cry, to feel, I prayed, and I journaled ferociously, I wrote and wrote whatever was on my heart, I gave myself permission to sleep in as often as I needed it, I took long baths, I moisturised my body, I lit candles.  I filled my mind with positivity and I reconnected with positive, enthusiastic people. 

6. MY ENVIRONMENT and SELF CARE.   

I realised I had become addicted to technology and devices.  So I started turning them off on Sundays and only checking for messages twice a day.  Wow that was liberating. I was taking control of my life back.

7. GIVING 

I’ve learnt that to give is far greater than to receive.   The one who gives the most truly is victorious.   Give away the love you have inside, share kindness wherever you go, be generous with all you come into contact with, encourage and uplift others, this is how we make the world a better place, this is how a legacy is created.

8. MY WORK. 

I redefined my business to be more aligned with my research and the work I love – welcome to Pro Metabolic Life. www.prometaboliclife.com   My Pro-Metabolic meal plans continue to change lives worldwide.   I’ve created a membership program and I will continue to blog about how the right nutrition can create great looking healthy bodies with MORE energy, MORE fat loss, MORE balance.  

The right nutrition is liberating.  I am passionate about seeing people freed from restrictive eating habits and exhausting lifestyles.  I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and experience to teach how losing body fat, doesn’t have to be gruelling, miserable or a depriving experience    I know too well the misery from eating and living like this.  Pro-Metabolic nutrition and enriching the lives of others is my life’s mission.     So I disciplined myself to create, to produce, to research and to show up my business as I’ve never done before.   

9.  MY THINKING.  

I once again realised the important of taming my thoughts.  Not to let fears, worries or negative thinking consume my mind.   It’s true.  What I focus on expands, yes I do attract more of the energy I give out.   

10. MY WHY. 

I’ve learnt that society as a generalisation struggles when people don’t fit in to the norm – I love being strong and sadly that is not the apparent norm for western females and as a result I’ve had to learn to ignore bullies, and online trolls.  It’s made me be really clear about WHY I do what I do and to realise that how I feel about myself is more important than  a random keyboard warrior.  I encourage everyone to work out their WHY and do what you do for YOU…. I’ve learnt to love myself whether I’m ripped or 10kgs heavier and self-love is priceless.

11. MAKE IT HAPPEN  

Above all, I realised that to have an exceptional life, I needed to make phenomenal things happen.  It wasn’t going to happen otherwise.  I had to face life not hide under a rock.   When I failed, I needed to try again.  When I felt afraid, I needed to show up.   When I suddenly felt embarrassed about the extra 10kgs, I needed to refocus, be consistent with my eating and get my ass back in the gym.  I needed to think thoughts of the highest calibre, I needed to stop comparing myself to others and have belief in myself.  If it is to be it is up to me.

So, I focused on the work I love, my family and despite how low I felt, I was determined to continue showing up.  To keep on going.  Not to let resentment, hurts, fears or insecurities ever get in my way again. 

My hope started to grow, my worries started to disappear and the voice inside me that once roared finally found traction again.
